Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bethel Hills?

Bethel Hills Community is a neighborhood of homes located in a safe, secure, setting designed for the needs and aspirations of individuals with and without developmental disabilities. We are a SUPPORTIVE NEIGHBORHOOD – meaning, we celebrate and include everyone (those with and without IDD), providing  housing and social opportunities so they can live, learn and worship together.

Our community includes apartment homes, a chapel, a gym, event center, commercial kitchen, offices PLUS furnished bed and breakfast and meeting rooms available for rent. We welcome 15 people with and without I/DD to our beautiful, rural, 127-acre community for social activities, special events and worship services every week. We have with plans to grow exponentially and a new villa under construction.

Where are you located?

Our community is located at 10450 Voelkerding Road, Marthasville, MO 63357. We are in a beautiful and safe rural setting, conveniently located near Washington, MO in Warren County. We are just 15 minutes from St. Charles County.

How long has Bethel Hills been in existence?

The concept was created in 2015, when a group of families felt led to create an inclusive, faith-based community that celebrates and supports the value of every person. We welcomed our first residents in February of 2022 and look forward to ongoing expansions that meet the tremendous need for supportive housing.

Is Bethel Hills affiliated with any other I/DD organization?

We are fully independent and value the service provider partners who deliver high-quality care within the homes that we build, operate and maintain. We are a member of Together For Choice, an I/DD housing choice advocate organization.

What kind of supports and services will be provided for residents of Bethel Hills Community?

Residents will contract with one of our approved service providers for their DSP and personal attendant services. Bethel Hills will provide optional activities for residents, plus safety and other non-DSP resident supports.

Are residences rental units or purchased?

We currently lease our living units, with regular maintenance, groundskeeping, security and community social activities included in affordable monthly rents. Our nonprofit is specifically designed to provide affordable, supportive and integrated housing. As we plan for the future, we are considering adding purchase options to our current rental community.

What does it cost to live at Bethel Hills Community?

Rental prices are designed to be affordable and meet the needs of residents who are typically living on monthly stipends from Supplemental  Security Income (SSI). Please call for current rates for our studio, one- and two- and three-bedroom apartment homes. Current residents utilize SSI/SSDI, SNAP, waiver money, and family supports based on their own personal needs and resources.

How is Bethel Hills Funded? Are you state or federally supported?

We are an entirely private nonprofit (EIN: 47-5456955). Residents’ monthly rents cover only a portion of our operations. This community was created and is maintained by generous donors including individuals, corporations, foundations, and grants.

A tremendous amount of our day-to-day support comes from skilled volunteers providing construction, maintenance, operational expertise and programming.
